Water Stress

منابع آب تحت فشار

The BBC reports the world's major rivers are drying up.

On their world map of future water stress, we see that most of Iran is facing "extreme stress", and the rest is either "high stress" or unknown.

The causes are man made and climactic:
[There is] an overall decline in the amount of water flowing into the world's oceans.

Much of the reduction has been caused by human activities such as the building of dams and the diversion of water for agriculture.

But the researchers highlighted the contribution of climate change, saying that rising temperatures were altering rainfall patterns and increasing rates of evaporation.

As we've seen from "Water cycle basics" evaporation may have more to do with land management than with climate. In any case:

Water. Iran. What's the plan?
