Problem Solving Basics |
اصول مشکل حل کردن |
Briefly, problem solving has five steps:
- Slow down. Don't jump to conclusions. What are reasons to explain the situation. Hot thoughts ("people are out to get me", "This computer is a pile of crap") vs. Cool Thoughts. Figure out more about what has happened before deciding how to respond.
- Perspective Taking. Ask the person or adversary "why did you do that?" or "what happened"? This works for people as well as inanimate objects. "If I was a fork, where would I be?"
- Goal Setting. What do you want as an outcome? What are all the possible ways to arrive at it? This depends a lot on your b eliefs of what caused the adversity. So if you believe X caused it, then your goal might be Y, which uses steps a, b, c. A different belief of causes generates different goals and steps.
- Choosing a course of action. Compare the pluses and minuses of the goals in step 3.
- How did it go? Did your solution work? If not, try another, until satisfaction.
